John Martyn - just arrived
A new collection arrived this week
Martyn quietly redrew the boundaries of what a folk artist could sound like. Starting in the late ’60s folk scene, he quickly moved from the acoustic and traditional into jazz phrasing, blues influence, and eventually a lot of studio experimentation.
Martyn helped turn British folk into something more fluid, more atmospheric, and more open-ended, seeping into many corners of modern music
Imperfect, rough-edged and vulnerable, but always deeply felt - which is perhaps why it sticks.
