• Condition grading

It’s essential to understand our grading process before purchasing pre-owned vinyl from Music in the Green.

Whilst we follow the Record Collector’s grading system in spirit, we have found the number of grades to be both onerous and highly subjective. Terms like ‘slight’ or ‘very little’ can be widely differently interpreted between buyers.

We have therefore reduced the classification of pre-owned vinyl in the physical shop, and online to only three categories – swipe for our guide to A, B and C.

We hope that the images provided for each album are sufficient to enable you to make an informed decision, but if you need more information, contact us via the button below the listings.

  • Vinyl graded as A

Pre-owned vinyl, graded as ‘A’ by us is likely to show signs of having been played such as small, visible marks, but there is very little lessening in sound quality on playback.

The sleeve and additional printed items such as booklets, posters or lyric sheets might show slight wear and / or some creasing.

All new, factory-sealed vinyl, sourced from our distributors must be assumed mint, as we cannot open it to check. We also must assume that all pre-owned, sealed copies will also be mint, however it is unlikely that there will be any new vinyl sold via the website.

  • Vinyl graded as B

Pre-owned vinyl, graded as ‘B’ by us is has clearly been played many times.

They may show noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch, however not deep enough to cause the vinyl to skip on playback.

Despite any cosmetic deterioration or shelf wear, the vinyl displays no major lessening of sound quality.

There is likely to be an expected level of wear and tear seen on the sleeve and additional printed inserts, but without any major defects.

  • Vinyl graded as C

Pre-owned vinyl, graded as ‘C’ by us has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated.

There is likely to be some surface noise, distortion and crackle on playback. Surfaces scratches will be ‘feelable’ but mild enough not to skip.

The sleeve may show signs of obvious aging and suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits and discolouration, but the sleeve and additional printed inserts will otherwise be presentable.
