An English prog rock band formed in the late 1980s, Porcupine Tree began primarily as a solo studio project, but evolved into a full band known for mixing progressive rock, psychedelic rock, metal, ambient music, and emotional songwriting.

Their music has evolved considerably over time, and whilst their earlier albums feel psychedelic and space-rock influenced, this expanded into more atmospheric progressive rock, and latterly embraced heavier and more progressive metal elements.
